Friends of Love Field Endorses Wilson Aurbach for Congress
Dallas, Texas, April 2, 2006 - Friends of Love Field, a citizen action group working with residents and small business owners seeking repeal of the Wright Amendment, formally announced today that it was giving its formal endorsement to Wilson Aurbach, candidate for U.S. Congress in District 30. Aurbach understands the vital role which Love Field plays in the local Dallas economy and supports the repeal of the Wright Amendment, which artificially limits the usefulness of Love Field.
“The Wright Amendment is outdated, protectionist legislation which harms the Dallas economy and punishes Dallas air travelers by artificially depriving them of choice while also driving up air fares,“ said Anthony R. Page, Official Spokesperson for the Friends of Love Field. "Wilson Aurbach, in contrast with many existing elected officials, has taken the time to actually listen to the residents of District 30 and understands our concerns,” Page continued.
District 30 encompasses the heart of Dallas and South Dallas, and has long been represented by Eddie Bernice Johnson. In August 2005, Rep. Johnson announced plans to close Love Field to commercial traffic if the Wright Amendment is repealed (Dallas Morning News, August 11, 2005). "Rep. (E.B.) Johnson's bizarre plan, announced without consulting key residents and small businesses in her district, would represent an economic kneecapping for the City of Dallas," Page said. Aurbach, a lifelong resident of District 30, is running to challenge Eddie Bernice Johnson aggressively on issues leading up to the November 2006 election, including her position on the Wright Amendment.
The organization is asking supporters of the repeal of the Wright Amendment to vote for Aurbach in the run-off election on April 11th. Early voting begins Monday, April 3rd through Friday, April 7th.
